Schools

School places in Keynsham can be difficult to sort out and there are many schools where particular year groups are full. As a result it is important to avoid starting discussions with families with children who we know now cannot get a place near to where you live (unless the parent is comfortable and you are prepared to transport them, as there is some doubt as to whether B&NES are able to provide transport for additional students.

For any queries or issues sponsors can contact the BANES Council’s Schools Admissions team on 01225 394312.

Assuming there is a place available and discussions with a Ukrainian family progress to visa application stage, it is then very important for you to obtain email permission from the parent and make an application for a school place on their behalf as soon as the visa application has been lodged.

For Primary and Secondary Education we are working with Bath and North East Somerset Council

Top tips

  • When applying on behalf of the parent please ask them to, if possible, write an email giving you permission. This can then be uploaded on the application form

  • When applying you may find that some questions are not relevant or difficult to complete. There will be an area where you can add information and explain. Admissions officers are aware of the situation and will be lenient. If there is further information they need they will get in touch with you.

  • Please ask parents for the dates of birth of the children asap if you don't already know

  • If the school you choose is outside your LA you still use your own LA form, not the form of the LA where the school is

  • You should hear whether you have secured a place from 10-15 days.

PRE SCHOOLS and CHILDCARE

Click here to take you to a page which from which you will be able to see the range of Pre-Schools, Nurseries and other Childcare available in each of the two local authority areas that make up the Chew Valley.

INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS

Should your Ukrainian family wish to consider independent schools as an option then it is best to contact the school directly. We are currently looking to see if any of our local independents are offering bursaries for our Ukrainian guests, so watch this space!

TRANSPORT TO SCHOOL

The Local Authority is responsible for providing school transport to school, for all children aged 5-16 yrs, where it is not reasonable or safe to expect your child to walk. Having school transport from your village to the school may really help so do check out the LA website (links below) to see if you are eligible for a place
